Fresh Air features artwork by two female artists that are also athletes. The works on view are inspired by their experiences outdoors.
Charlotte Russell Contemporary is pleased to announce Fresh Air, a two-person exhibition featuring landscape paintings by Winston-Salem based artist Jessica Singerman and textile works by Wilmington-based artist Sydney Zester. Both artists are also athletes. The pieces on view are inspired by fresh air, and the experience of being outdoors. This exhibition will be on view at Charlotte Russell Contemporary, January 14 - February 16, 2022. Opening reception is cancelled due to COVID-19.
Artist Jessica Singerman uses color, shape and composition to create vibrant abstracted landscapes in acrylic. Singerman’s paintings on view are inspired by a question she posted on Facebook: “What outdoor spaces bring you peace and happiness?” Friends sent her photos of their special landscapes, and she used those images as a jumping off point to create small paintings. Using those, she then created the larger pieces in Searching on the Wind. Her works have been exhibited internationally.
Sydney Zester draws inspiration from her experience as an endurance athlete to create her unique textile works. Her intention is to replicate the senses of calmness and energy that she feels while being active with a nod to the coastal environment they are felt within. She expresses this balance of emotion through the use of contrasting muted and vibrant colors in playful and abstracted shapes. Zester began working with textiles over 15 years ago while apprenticing with her seamstress aunt. She is currently based in Wilmington, NC.
